09 / MOLDING AND CASTING

_DESIGN A 3D MODEL, MACHINE IT AND CAST PARTS FROM IT

CONCEPT AND IDEA_ For this assigment I wanted to experiment with other kind of molding process with laser cut, is not that ortodox but in some way works bvery good. The project that I create or I inspire was to design a parametric mold for silicone dildos. The name:  DEVO DILDO….. WHIP IT GOOD

DIGITAL DESIGN_ As the concept I get. I start to do the digital file that works with grsshopper to create a simple parametric model where yo can adjust the dimensions that you want for your dildo. After the dimension stage, the model is fragmented in slices and create the sections for the mold.

LASER CUT MOLD FABRICATION_ Ones that you have your sections the design of the layers have to cuted in half for the un-molding process and we name every one layer to know the orden of the, and we input a press layer with rod and hex , this for the casting ans for the alignment of the piece.

  • CASTING AND UNMOLDING PROCESS

ASSEMBLY MOLD AND PREPARATION FOR CASTING_  With this kind of simple mold, I start the union of the pieces to form the mold, I use 4 rod with hex for press the mold and I use vaseline with baby oil for a layer inside the mold. After assemply I start with the silicone casting, preparing the mix of silicone with a catalist, and ones that is very well mix , I cast it inside of the mold.

UN MOLDING AND FINAL PIECE_ Well ,after 12 hrs of wait… the piece is ready. The unmolding of this was kind a simple, one od the things here was the unassembly of the mold I have to assembly again for another piece. but the final piece was simple to clean and I cut the excess of the top of it.

a.-design or modify the dimension with the grasshopper file

b.- start to create the layer mold with 123d make

c.-with the sections name them and put the holes for the rods on cad software

d.-send to cut it on laser. ( you can use acrilic, wood, mdf, depends on how many you will do)

e.-assembly the mold with the rods and hex

f.-put a layer of unmolding liquid.

g.-prepare the silicon and catalist mix

h.-cast the silicone inside the mold

i.-wait and unmold the dildo
